FranÇois Joseph Méry (Les Aygalades, Marseille, 1798 — Paris, 1866)
French writer and librettist.
Following his graduation from law school, Méry began travelling, especially in Italy and the Orient, and later dedicated his work to poetry, narrative and the theatre.
He translated Gioacchino Rossini's Semiramide and worked on the libretto for Verdi's Don Carlos. But he died suddenly, and the libretto was finished by Camille Du Locle.
