Fondazione Arturo Toscanini
The Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, a musical institution of the Emilia-Romagna Region, was founded in 1994 by the Region, the Comune and the Province of Parma and represents the evolution of the Association of the same name founded in 1975 by the Comuni and Provinces of Emilia-Romagna. Today it is one the the largest and most dynamic of Italian musical institutions, active in the field of symphonic and opera production and training (for which it has gained recognition from the European Union). The Fondazione is named after Arturo Toscanini and is stationed in Parma, birthplace of the great orchestral conductor. Its activity at present consists annually of more than 100 symphonic concerts and more than 50 opera performances.
For its programming the Fondazione has at its disposal two separate orchestras, active on an annual basis: The Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, of which the principal guest director is Kasushi Ono is active in the performance of the major symphonic repertoire with the presence of the most famous soloists and international orchestral directors, and the Orchestra dell'Emilia-Romagna works both for regional concert activities and for opera productions. The main concert and opera performances are held at the Auditorium Paganini of Parma and in the Traditional Theaters of Emilia-Romagna. Besides these activities, the Fondazione collaborates at production level with some of the major Italian and foreign theatrical institutes. Its social structure, besides the participation of public Enti, has recently been enlarged to include numerous private subjects, such as for example bank foundations. The Fondazione Arturo Toscanini operates with the contribution of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, which since 1977 has recognized it as a national Istituzione Concertistico Orchestrale.
